Toshiro Hitsugaya is a character in the manga and anime series Bleach. He is the captain of the 10th Division in the Gotei 13. His lieutenant is Rangiku Matsumoto. He has recently become the second most popular Bleach character after Ichigo Kurosaki in Shonen Jump's polls, replacing Rukia, who had previously held the position. He missed first place by less than 100 votes.

Hitsugaya's zanpakuto is Hyorinmaru (lit. Ice Ring). When sealed, Hyôrinmaru looks almost exactly like a normal zanpakutô with the exception of the guard, which is in the shape of a four-pointed star. The hilt is also light-blue, which matches Hyorinmaru's abilities. Hyorinmaru's initial release command is "set upon the frozen heavens". Hyôrinmaru is considered the strongest of all water-ice element zanpakutô in Soul Society.

In its initial release, Hyorinmaru itself remains the same, but gains a crescent-shaped blade attached to the hilt by a chain. Hyorinmaru allows Hitsugaya to control the weather, specifically water and ice. His slashes create an immense amount of spirit power which overflows from the tip of the blade, creating a flow of ice shaped like a Chinese dragon. The dragon flies at opponents and instantly freezes anything it touches. The chain-blade also freezes anything Hitsugaya traps with it.
